Fall FAMILY activity time! This is my favorite season of the year. I love the cool, crisp air and I love that the leaves change colors. I love pumpkins, sweet potatoes, spices, and everything red, orange, and brown! It is also right around my birthday month as well. There are tons of fun activities do to with the kids as well during this season. The weather is perfect to do lots of fun things outside.
Activity 1: Hayrides & Pumpkin Patch
One of the least expensive activity you can do with your kids is taking them to a pumpkin patch. At the pumpkin patch you can enjoy walking around with your kids to pick out their own pumpkins that they want to take home. You also get to ride a hayride out to the pumpkin patch and you usually don’t have to pay for the hayride, just the pumpkin. They will also, depending on what pumpkin patch you go to, will have other fun activities you can enjoy like corn hole, mazes, barrel rides, animal petting farm, etc.
Activity 2: Apple Picking
Another amazing, fun activity to do with the family is to go apply picking. You usually pay for a basket, bucket, bag, and you can put as many apples in them. We did this last year and had so many apples left over that we were able to make tons of different things at home. I was able to make homemade applesauce, apple butter, apple pie, and just enjoyed apples for a snack with peanut butter. The apple orchard we went to had a contest for whom ever picked the biggest apple won a price. So, we had a lot of fun searching for the biggest apple.
They also had picnic tables there so we brought a picnic lunch to enjoy with the family. It is a great outdoor event to get the kids out and get their energy out. I just love being outside and not being to hot that I am sweaty and uncomfortable.
Activity 3: Campfire & Roasting Marshmallows
It is always fun to sit around a campfire and roast marshmallows. Kids love doing this. It is very inexpensive and something you can do right at home. Just buy a bag of marshmallows, Hershey candy (or any chocolate bars), graham crackers, and you can use metal hangers as your sticks.
Activity 4: Visit A Metro Park
Another fun activity to do with your family is to go on a nature walk. Go look at all the leaves that have changed colors and it is even a great place to go take a family photo. You can bring your bikes and ride on the trails as well. Here in Ohio there are ton of parks we can go to. Get out and enjoy the weather before it is to cold too.
Activity 5: Boo At The Zoo
Check your local zoo because a lot of them do a trick-or-treat event in the month of October. Ours here where we live has them every weekend in October. Yes, you have to pay to get into the zoo, but your kids get to dress up and trick-or-treat safely at the zoo. All while they get to see animals too. Don’t forget to get some yummy hot chocolate too! They have lots of fun events like: Sweet Stripe Stable Hay Maze, Candy Corn Carousel rides, Animals on Safari “HOWLOWEEN” live show, and so much more. We have taken our kids a couple of times and they loved it.
