Kroger Mega Event: Buy 5, Save $5

What is Kroger’s Mega Event?

You may have walked into Kroger and saw a sign saying Kroger Mega Event: Buy 5, save $5 and wondered what is that. Kroger runs these Mega Events every two to three weeks. They advertise certain items during these events that are on sale when you buy a certain amount. (They do buy 3, save $3; buy 5, save $5; buy 6, save $3)

What it is, is you are to buy 5 participating items (they will have a special tag listed on the shelf) and you will save $5 at checkout. I always get asked, “Do I have to buy 5 of the same items?” The answer is, No! You just have to buy participating items in multiples of 5.

What do I need to do to prepare to shop the Kroger Mega Event sale

I always prepare myself before I go to Kroger to shop the mega event. I make a list of everything I want to purchase and make sure that I have the right amount of items. The worst thing that can happen is you walk into the store and grab only nine mega items and not ten. If you did grab the incorrect amount, then you would only get the mega sale price on five items and regular price on the other items.

Now if that does happen, just take your receipt back to Kroger and go to their customer service counter and explain to them you forgot to grab your fifth item. They will adjust the pricing and give you the mega deal pricing back on the five items.

Now, after you make your list of all the items you will then want to go on Kroger’s website and clip your digital coupons. Clip any digital coupon that corresponds to the items you are wanting to purchase, so you are able to get more of a savings. If you receive paper coupons you are able to use those as well. (You just can’t stack a digital coupon and a paper coupon for the same item due to the fact that both coupons are manufacture coupons).

How do I get a Kroger Plus Card

If you have not gotten yourself a Kroger plus card you will want to get one. It is easy! You can go to customer service and they will get you your Kroger plus card. You can do it on Kroger’s website as well. Your alt ID can be your cell phone number or home number if that is easier for you to remember. I do not carry my actual Kroger plus card around with me, so when I check out I just type in my alt ID number and then all my digital coupon savings come off at check out.

Let me show you an example of a breakdown shopping a Mega Event at Kroger

Today I bought 3 Suave kids shampoo/conditioner, 1 Snuggle Plus fabric Softener, and 1 Colgate Optic White toothpaste. I spent $5.45 plus tax on all five items and saved $14.45. I will break it down so you are able to visually see how this is done.

Kroger Mega Event: Buy 5, Save $5
Kroger Mega Event: Buy 5, save $5

Snuggle Plus Super Fresh fabric Softener: Normal price $10.00, Kroger sale price $6.99, Mega Event price $5.99

Suave Kids Shampoo/Conditioner: Normal price $1.99, Mega Event price $0.99

Colgate Optic White toothpaste: Normal price $3.49, Kroger sale price $2.99, Mega Event price $1.99

Then the coupons I used were: Digital coupon $2 off 2 Kid’s suave, digital coupon $1 off 1 snuggle item, digital coupon $2 off 1 Colgate toothpaste, and 1 peelie coupon $0.50 off 1 Kid’s suave.

So the breakdown is:

1 Snuggle Softener $5.99 – $1.00 = $4.99

2 Kids Suave $0.99 – $1.00 = +$0.01 x 2 = +$0.02

1 Kids Suave $0.99 – $0.50 = $0.49

1 Colgate toothpaste $1.99 – $2.00 = +$0.01

For a total of: $4.99 + $0.49 – $0.02 – $0.01 = $5.45 + sales tax

Conclusion

Kroger’s Mega Events are a great way to save money. Even if you do not want to deal with coupons. Just shopping the mega event prices will save you tons of money. I always tell my friends and family to start out small. Just go get a couple items like I did and then work your way up. It can get confusing if you try to get to many items at one time because not every item you are planning on buying is in stock. Sometimes you have to stop a minute and figure out a filler item if you end up not being able to get an item because its not in stock.

Being able to coupon is supposed to be fun, so do not stress about it. Sometimes deals don’t work out. It is not the end of the world. Stay tuned for more deals!
