Simple, 3 Ingredient Funnel Cake Recipe

Tonight I was experimenting making a funnel cake. With summer around the corner and that usually means fairs and fair food. I wanted to see if I could make one as good as the ones we get from the fair. We don’t know if we will be able to get one this summer due to the COVID-19 so I better start practicing cooking all my favorite foods at home.

It took me a couple tries to get it right, but I think I succeeded. It is super easy and it only takes 3 ingredients to make. It is also one of those desserts that you can put many different toppings on. I used powder sugar tonight on ours, but you could use fruit, chocolate, honey, ice cream, whipped cream, etc.

The important thing I learned is your oil can’t be to hot. I started out turning it all the way up on high and when I placed the batter in the pan it instantly burned. So, I turned the heat down to medium and the oil temperature was 275 degrees Fahrenheit.

Ingredients:

  • Pancake mix (I used the one that just mixes with water)
  • Pure vanilla
  • White sugar

Directions:

Step 1: Heat oil in pan on medium heat to 275 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2: Mix together in a mixing bowl or blender – 1.5 cups of pancake mix, 1 tablespoon vanilla, 2 tablespoons white sugar, & 3/4 cup to 1 cup of water. (I started with 3/4 cup of water and added a little more to the mix. You don’t want the mix to be to thick, but also not to runny).

Step 3: Place a sandwich zip lock bag into a mug and pour some of the batter into the bag. Seal the bag and cut one of the corners. (The amount you cut will determine how thick or thin your funnel cake will be).

Step 4: Squeeze the batter in all kinds of directions. Let each side get golden brown. (I waiting 1-2 minutes before I flipped it and took it out of the pan).

Step 5: Once the funnel cake is golden brown, put on a paper towel to drain, and then put your favorite topping on it.

It is super simple to make and it tastes just like getting one from the carnival or fair. I hope ya’ll enjoy this recipe just as much as my family and I did.
